AJE helps Forres light up
AJ Engineering has helped to light up Forres in time for Christmas by supplying equipment to erect the town’s festive lights.
Graham Alexander joined around 20 other volunteers to help put up the town’s Christmas lights which were switched on in secret to avoid drawing a crowd.
The usual annual event where crowds gather to countdown the lights being switched on had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.
AJ Engineering donated the use of a cherry picker which was operated by Graham throughout the day.
Graham said: “AJE has often offered assistance to community groups when it can and the Christmas lights has always been a project which we have been happy to get involved in. The lights bring joy to the whole of the town so if we can do our bit to support the Christmas Lights Committee who rely heavily on fundraising to make sure the town looks festive, then it’s the least we can do.”
Alan Hunter, chairman of the committee said: “Never did we think that we would have to switch the lights on in secret, but it was the only way to do it safely and we are delighted that they are now up and on.
“We had hoped that we would be able to add some extra excitement to this year’s event. However, we are just delighted that the lights are up and we will all have to make sure that in 2021, we come back bigger than ever before. I want to thank every single volunteer who gave up their time.”
